About Dr Ruth McConigley
After a desk job stole my mobility, exercise physiology restored my freedom. It was a powerful feeling – one that I want you to experience as well.
I help people with all kinds of conditions – from diabetes and mental illness, to pain and metabolic disease, to don’t-want-to-get-off-the-couch-itis – to discover how easy, fun and truly life-changing exercise can be.
I see you
You’re not looking for a personal trainer. You’re not interested in burpees (is anyone?!). You’re worried that the journey back to exercise might be complex and intimidating.
That’s why I do my best to make the process as easy and low-pressure as possible.
Whether you need help with an injury or chronic condition, or you just want to strengthen your core for horse riding, I provide evidence-based, personalised programs that you can do at home or in the gym.
Together with your chosen health professionals, I’ll help you get moving in a way that makes you comfortable. Health rebates and my relaxed, supportive manner make the process even easier.
I'm addicted to learning
I've got a lot of letters after my name. It’s funny for everyone apart from my husband (who has been by my side through four of my six degrees). So you can get in on the joke, here is a run-down of my qualifications:
I became a Registered Nurse in 1992, with a focus on palliative and cancer care
A PhD in Nursing allowed me to work in universities as a lecturer and researcher for 20 years
My Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology and my passion for positive, non-judgmental exercise support led me to open Freedom Exercise Physiology
The bottom line? I'm an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Accredited Sport Scientist, and a member of Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA). And I bring a whole lot of other knowledge to your appointments, too.
